In short

  • Cinemax is an educational sample project for cinephiles to explore. It is not a commercial service.
  • There is no public sign-up. Test accounts are created by the project team and given to testers, developers and a few selected members.
  • Test accounts only hold what the site needs to work: a username, a hashed password, votes and reviews. Please don't enter real personal information.
  • No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing is sold or shared.

What this project is

Cinemax is a small sample site where a closed group can vote on the next screening and write movie reviews. It was built for learning and exploration. It is not meant for the general public, and it comes with no promises of uptime, support or permanence.

Who can have an account

Visitors cannot sign up. Accounts are created by the project's admins and handed to project testers, developers and a select group of members, so they can try the site out. If you were not given an account, you can still read the site, but you can't vote or post reviews.

What is stored for a test account

  • Username, chosen by the admin who made the account.
  • Email address, only if the admin entered one. It is optional.
  • Password, stored only as a scrambled (hashed) value. Nobody, including the admins, can read it back.
  • Your activity: the movie you voted for, and the ratings and comments you write. Reviews and the username next to them are visible to other visitors on the site.

That is all. There are no real names, phone numbers, addresses, payment details or location data.

What we don't do

  • No advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
  • No selling or sharing of data with anyone.
  • No marketing emails.
  • No cookies. The site saves a sign-in token in your browser's local storage so you stay logged in. Logging out removes it.

Hosting

The site runs on common hosting services and db such as MongoDB Atlas and loads a font from Google Fonts. As with any website, these providers may see technical details like your IP address.

Test data, removal and resets

Treat everything on this site as test data. It may be changed, reset or deleted at any time without notice, and the whole database may be wiped when the project is updated. If you would like your account removed, ask the person who gave it to you.

Please don't reuse a password you use anywhere else.

Changes to this page

This page may be updated as the project changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
